Human-Computer Interface Researcher

Overview

The future of AI is not fully autonomous — it’s collaborative.

As AI agents become embedded in decision-making workflows, traditional interfaces like chatbots and search boxes are proving too limited for complex, high-stakes tasks such as financial research. This project aims to rethink and redesign the way humans and AI agents work together — focusing on planning, feedback, iteration, and explanation as new UX primitives.

We are looking for a contract AI researcher with a strong interest in human-computer interaction, UX design, and AI explainability to help us explore and prototype these next-generation interfaces.

You will work closely with the founder of Vector, an early-stage AI startup for investment research, to contribute to both a commercial product and a research paper/demo submission (e.g., ICML Workshops, HCI venues).

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate how users perform high-stakes reasoning and decision-making, with a focus on how they consume, challenge, and validate AI-generated outputs.
  • Design interaction paradigms that encourage human feedback and corrections as part of natural workflows — not as forced feedback mechanisms.
  • Prototype new UX primitives (e.g., visual reasoning trees, timeline-based thinking, inline commentary tools) that make it easy for users to inspect and improve AI reasoning.
  • Implement functional UIs using Next.js and Tailwind CSS, with state management to support real-time interaction with AI agents.
  • Collaborate with backend and AI engineers to connect user interactions with model outputs, with the goal of capturing high-quality, structured training signals.
  • Develop strategies to collect fine-tuning data from human-AI interactions (e.g., edits, rewrites, critiques, comparisons) with minimal user friction.
  • Contribute to a research paper/demo submission for top-tier AI or HCI venues (e.g., ICML, CHI, NeurIPS workshops), focusing on user-in-the-loop interaction design and human-feedback for LLMs.

Who You Are

  • You’ve studied or practiced UX design, HCI, or AI product development (academia, internships, or personal projects).
  • You’re comfortable translating design concepts into functional code using React/Next.js.
  • You’re passionate about the future of human-AI collaboration — not just building smarter models, but better tools for people.
  • Bonus: Experience with LLM applications, explainability, or reasoning UIs is a plus
  • Fresh graduates, penultimate-year undergraduates, as well as Master’s and PhD students are welcome to apply for this role as part of an industrial attachment or internship.

What You’ll Gain

  • A chance to define a new UX paradigm for reasoning alongside AI.
  • Hands-on experience building a product that bridges academic rigor and commercial application.
  • Co-authorship or credit on a research publication or demo paper.
  • A portfolio-defining project at the intersection of design, AI, and finance.

If you’re excited about reimagining how humans and AI collaborate — and want to shape both research and real-world impact — we’d love to hear from you.
